Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What sizes are available?
A. Photo cutouts and popouts are available in 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10" sizes. Photo ornaments and magnets are about 4 inches wide or tall, not counting the ribbon. Click here for a discussion of sizes and what they mean.

Q. Do you make LIFE size cutouts?
A. I am not set up to make Lifesize cutouts, but YOU can make them for about $10 in materials. See Life size cutouts YOU can make.

Q. How many people can be in a cutout?
A. It doesn't really matter. A cutout can be of one person or a whole team. The price is the same.

Q. What is a POPout?
A. Unlike a cutout where the background is discarded, a POPout uses the background as, well, background. The subject is made into a cutout and mounted to the background so the subject "POPs out".

Q. When would I want a POPout instead of a CUTout?
A. When the background is an important part of the photo. Suppose you have a great picture of someone standing in front of the Grand Canyon: You sure don't want to remove a view like that, so we make a cutout of the person and glue it to the photo of the Grand Canyon which is mounted on acrylic or Oak. Now we have a POPout because the person "pops" out from the background. They are great for that "Mountain-top Experience"

Q. How do I send my photo to you?
A. To send via Internet.  To send the old fashion way.

Q. How can I know if my photo will "work" for a cutout?
A. Just send it to me and I'll be happy to give my opinion. Sometimes even a fax copy is enough for a preliminary judgment, but sending it e-mail is better. My fax is 815-927-0215

Q. If I order an oak cutout, is just the base oak?
A. No, the base and the sculpture are both made of oak.

Q. How do I decide if I want oak or acrylic?
A. I think it depends on what type of room in which it will be displayed. A modern office is where I would put the acrylic, and in a home with antiques I would put the oak. It's just a matter of personal taste and you CAN'T go wrong.

Q. What if the people (or pets) in my picture have redeye?
A. I will remove redeye, most scratches, and even most distractions from the image before printing. I might even be able to remove an ex-husband from the picture! See also Photo Tips.

Q. How much is the shipping charge?
A. FREE (USA only -Ornaments and magnets ship First Class Mail, all other products ship via Priority Mail)  If you want overnight or 2nd day air delivery, I charge what DHL charges me.

Q. What are the cutouts made of?
A. Your choice of either Oak or Acrylic plastic.

Q. Is there a difference between a photo cutout and a photo sculpture?
A. Nope.

Q. Is the acrylic that lightweight foam stuff?
A. No way! It's solid and heavy much like glass.

Q. I have seen photo cutouts where the sculpture is pushed into a slot that runs across the base. Are yours like that?
A. No. My acrylic sculptures are actually chemically welded to the solid acrylic base. My oak cutouts also have a solid oak base with the sculpture glued in place.

Q. Can I buy a cutout WITHOUT the base so I can hang it on the wall?
A. You bet! Just let me know.

Q. What form of payment do you accept?
A. You may pay with a credit/debit card, or via PayPal, or send a check (a check will delay your order) (Just follow the links on the order page - you will be asked to choose a payment method)

Q. How long does it take for you to ship my order?
A. Your order will be sent Priority Mail within 10 business days of payment receipt. Usually, I ship in 5 or 6 days

!Q. How long does Priority Mail take?
A. Priority Mail seems to take only about 2 or 3 days - US locations only.  First Class, a "few days".

Q. What if I simply don't like the finished product, even if there is nothing wrong with it?
A. Not a problem! See Satisfaction Guarantee.

A. How durable are photo cutouts & popouts?
Q. The wood or Acrylic will last practically forever and the photo image is printed with a dye-sublimation photo printer which infuses the color INTO the paper, then covers it with a clear coat to protect from water and UV light damage. They will last as well as a print from a regular photo lab! And they are water resistant.

Photo cutouts are not toys and could be hazardous to small children if a small part breaks off! Don't give them to young kids!
